JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Physician Assistant
JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of a physician, performs a variety of advanced clinical duties and provides medical care preventing patient illnesses and disease. Performs physical examinations and identifies patients with physical and emotional illnesses; administers medications as prescribed. Utilizes appropriate equipment and resources and supervises staff in the provision of services and care. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens I.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
B. Personal Job-Related Skills: Fulfillment of the necessary requirements to secure approval from the TBME for a physician to supervise this specific physician assistant. Good people skills required.
C. Licensure, Registry or Certification: Must be eligible to maintain appropriate required liability insurance. Must have and maintain a valid physician assistant license in the State of Texas.
D. Experience:
1. Prior Work Experience: One year prior experience in providing medical care preferred.
2. Technical Training: Current CPR certification required.
E. Physical Requirements: Position requires extended periods of standing and walking. Bending stooping, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting patients whom may suddenly become weak or helpless.
F. Knowledge:
1. Advanced principles, procedures, methods, practices and techniques of medical care and diagnoses.
2. Normal growth patterns of newborns and infants.
3. A variety of contagious and transmittable diseases, how they are contracted and spread, and their proper treatments and immunizations.
4. A variety of possible reactions or side effects to vaccines and immunizations.
5. Procedures and methods of laboratory testing and interpretation.
6. Community agencies and other outside resources available to patients.
7. Medical terminology and the principles and procedures of medical report preparation and record keeping.
8. Universal precautions and infection control practices.
9. Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations regarding health care.
G. Abilities:
1. Perform general physical examinations and diagnostic tests.
2. Assess patient’s health status and provide reasonable care.
3. Administer a variety of prescribed medications, vaccines and immunizations.
4. Perform male and female exams.
5. Draw blood from adults and children.
6. Respond to emergency situations and administer first aid.
7. Counsel patients on a variety of health care related issues.
8. Operate standard medical testing equipment.
9. Prepare, perform and interpret laboratory tests.
10. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
11. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
