JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic
DEPARTMENT: Emergency Medical Services
JOB SUMMARY: Emergency care and transportation of the sick and injured patients. Transfers pertinent information to dispatcher and receiving facility concerning patient condition. Maintains necessary patient records of ambulance services. Maintains vehicles and equipment in optimum condition. Has a working knowledge of vehicles and equipment. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education: High School diploma or equivalent, Texas Department of Health Paramedic License or certificate, Class C driver’s license (restriction “A” permissible), American Heart BLS, American Heart ACLS, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support*, Basic Trauma Life Support , Pediatric Advanced Life Support. *Not a required certification or course for employment.
B. Personal Job-Related Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills with leadership ability. Familiarity with operation of emergency medical vehicles and equipment. Ability to adhere to hospital, local and state guidelines in delivery of emergency care.
C. Licensure, Registry or Certification: Current Certification by the Texas Department of Health as an Emergency medical Technician-Paramedic. Current driver’s license.
D. Experience:
1. Prior Work Experience: One year working in an emergency medical pre-hospital environment.
2. Technical Training: Training in a Texas Department of Health certified program at the Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic level.
E. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require intermittent walking, sitting, and standing. Walking while carrying a patient or equipment while traversing broken terrain, which may include hills, valleys, stairs, fields, or stationary objects with limited assistance. Bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying of patient with the use of equipment. Performs duties in all types of inclement weather. Some circumstances require ability to withstand heights, prolonged distances of travel, stress, and hostile environment.
